The Florida Green Building Coalition is Accepting 2022 Scholarship Applications

Background on The Florida Green Building Coalition

The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC) is a nonprofit 501(C)3 Florida corporation dedicated to improving the built environment. Our mission is to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through regional education and certification programs.

FGBC was established and founded in the belief that green building programs will be most successful if there are clear and meaningful principles on which "green" qualifications and marketing are based. We are a membership-based organization governed by a Board of Directors and corporate officers who are elected by the general membership.

The FGBC is continually finding new and innovative ways to educate builders, developers, local governments, and consumers about how to achieve a healthier, more environmentally sustainable future.

The purposes of the Florida Green Building Coalition are:

  • To administer certification programs based upon the green building standards

  • To award its certification mark to qualified projects

  • To educate the general public, businesses, institutional and governmental bodies of the long term benefits of sustainable development and green building practices

  • To encourage housing affordability by increasing building sustainability

  • To stimulate statewide acquaintance and fellowship among members and others interested in green building practices

  • To provide opportunities for members and other interested parties to increase their knowledge of green building practices.

The Deadline for Florida Green Building Coalition Scholarship Applications is April 22

The Florida Green Building Coalition (FGBC), the leading certifier of green construction projects, land developments and local green governments in the state, has announced the application deadline for its statewide scholarship program is April 22, 2022.

This year FGBC will be offering three $1,000 scholarships. Applications are for the 2022-2023 academic year. Finalists will be announced in the Spring.

The program was created for deserving students pursuing careers in the green built environment or related sustainability studies.

In 2000 the non-profit FGBC brought together industry professionals from the construction, government, academic, and research communities to create green building standards tailored specifically to Florida.

Celebrating its 22nd year, the non-profit FGBC has certified over 27,000 projects “Florida Green” since being founded. Scholarships like this, now in their sixth year, promote educational opportunities for individuals to build successful construction careers within the green building industry.

“This is a great opportunity for the prospective next generation of green building and sustainable professionals in Florida. We see it as our role to encourage Florida’s youth to pursue careers in sustainability,” said FGBC President Ralph Locke. “The scholarship program is part of the FGBC mission to lead and promote sustainability with environmental, economic, and social benefits through community outreach, industry education, and certification programs.
