15 lightyears is looking for a Solar Design Specialist to join our team to support various residential and commercial energy efficiency/solar PV projects. Candidates should have strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and capabilities. On-the-job training will be provided, this position reports to the Department Manager.

Job Qualifications

  • Preferred: College students seeking a degree in engineering, environmental policy, or business that are interested in sustainability and energy efficiency.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge of both AutoCAD and Aurora.

  • Basic knowledge of substation terminology and symbolism

  • Commitment to performing high quality work.

  • Excellent service and respect towards customers and Crew members.

  • Strong time management skills and self-motivation.

Technical Skills Needed

  • Entry level knowledge of building systems including lighting technologies, building envelope, and mechanical systems.

  • Read and understand mechanical and architectural plans.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and written communication.

  • Ability and interest in learning Aurora

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with project development for Solar PV by collecting data, providing research, and data analysis;

  • Organize and enter home and building characteristics into software to build models.

  • Perform data review, quality check, and processing of test results and information sent in by field technicians and google earth.

  • Prepare submittal packages, estimates, and documentation for review and approval.

  • Maintain accurate records of jobs, including all required documentation.

  • Read and understand mechanical and architectural plans.

  • Establish Bill of Material for each project. Bill of Materials include all material items that are required to complete a project including panel cut list, accessories, takeoffs and parts

  • Learn and apply drafting and company standards

  • Self-motivated to research assigned projects, new drafting techniques and increase job related knowledge to further career

  • Minimal travel may be required to visit customer sites to collect information

  • Coordinate with project managers and coordinators to ensure they have a complete and timely bill of materials, drawings and engineering for each project.

  • Work with the project manager and site superintendent to discuss construction details and assist in addressing questions.

Location

15 lightyears Headquarters is located in Longwood, FL. Some travel within the US may be needed to help support the company’s portfolio of PV solar/BESS assets.
